Built in the 9th century and expanded in the 13th, the Angers Castle became a key stronghold in the Hundred Years' War and houses the Apocalypse Tapestry.
What the castle is most known for is the Apocalypse tapestry. Over 140m long, it illustrates the entire socio-political history of 14th-century France.
Walk through the vibrant cultural scene at Angers and view the Saint-Maurice Cathedral with its colored stained glass windows and a beautiful wooden carved choir.

Tip: Check out the only tower of the castle that has retained its original altitude – the Tour du Moulin. The rest were cut down for use as infrastructure material.

Please note that there is free admission during the following days: European Heritage Days on the third weekend of Sep, and every first Sunday of the month from Nov to Mar.

Belle découverte par un temps estival . Lew températures trop élevées ne nous pas permis d'accéder aux remparts. Le parcours en visite libre n'est pas toujours évident à suivre. On revenait toujours sur nos pas. Enfin le clou de la visite cest évidemment la tenture de l'Apocalypse. Manque de chance la borne tactile explicative ne marchait pas. On aurait besoin d'un plan plus grand et bien détaillé pour faire la visite du château.

I actually visited the place in prevuious day. All was okay with that change and I even got "skip the line" option, as I avoided small waiting line in ticket office. But the place is not very crowded. Possibly never. Thanks anyway!

Absolutely wonderful castle, the middle age tapestry of the Apocalypse is simply breath taking! The views around the city and the river Maine are second to none. We can only recommend visiting this castle and all the associated exhibits!

Things to know before booking your tickets to Château d'Angers

Due to the presence of steps, Château d'Angers is partially accessible to people with reduced mobility and for families traveling with strollers and prams.
Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times during their visit to Château d'Angers.
